Sleek, strong and powerful, the Peregrine Falcon, or Bies, is a master of the skies and often celebrated as the fastest bird in the world. This majestic bird of prey was once resident in Malta, raising their chicks every year on our coastal cliffs. Unfortunately, they suffered from illegal persecution and haven't nested regularly for more than 30 years.
BirdLife Malta are now exploring the possibility of returning the iconic Maltese Falcon to our islands once more. Join us for this event to discover more about these magnificent birds, their cultural and historical significance, and what the opportunity of reintroducing them could mean for Malta. Programme The evening will comprise of talks from two leading ornithologists, starting with “The Story of the Maltese Falcon” by Joe Sultana.
Author of The Breeding Birds of Malta, Joe Sultana is Malta’s leading expert when it comes to birds, and his talk will focus on the history of this species on the Maltese Islands. In the second and final talk, Ed Drewitt, author of the new book “Urban Peregrines”, will speak about the “Secret Lives of Urban Peregrines”, providing an insight into the a possible future in Malta for the Maltese Falcon, whilst sharing some success stories from the UK. There will also be a question-and-answer session where BirdLife Malta will answer any questions on this topic.
