Assertiveness and Confidence Building Training

Assertiveness and Confidence Building Training in Malta, Learning Malta, 2.06.2014 - 2.06.2014

Description:

This workshop will enable participants to identify the value of their true inner being. It will give participants guidance on how to change their perspectives, attitudes and behaviours to have a more fulfilling and enriched life.

The Oxford Dictionary defines assertiveness as: Asserting oneself, being forthright and positive. During this workshop participants will gain insight on how to behave assertively. Adopting assertive behaviour involves standing up for your personal rights and expressing thoughts, feelings and beliefs in direct, honest, and appropriate ways which do not violate another person's rights.

The aim and objectives of this workshop is that participants will gin insight to act assertively by communicating ideas, feelings and needs clearly without being aggressive and in the appropriate way not to humiliate or degrade the other person. It is an area that has a long history of study, dating back to Salter (1949) and Wolpe (1958) who studied a great deal in the field of behaviour. Much literature supports the use of assertive behaviour in the workplace. Despite these research findings, some individual employees still opt to be non-assertive (Hernandez Gonzalez et al., 1997; Jaime et al., 1998; Holbrook and Freeman Adams, 1999; Martın et al., 2000).

Assertiveness is viewed as a valued behaviour as it can result in positive outcomes such as the enhancement of leadership skills (Milstead, 1996), increased employee job satisfaction (Creech and Boyle, 1985), alleviation of job stress (Bower, 1999), and the heightening of employees’ effectiveness in bringing about change (Benton, 1999).

Employees need to be empowered to behave assertively. Improving your self-esteem increases your confidence by believing that you are unique individual, and that you deserve to have your every wish come true! We all have the ability to become more assertive and confident even if we have trouble believing this at times. Too many of us struggle in relationships and in the workplace due to self-confidence and assertive issues. How we feel about ourselves i.e. whether we have high, moderate or low self-confidence determines our ability to be assertive (rather than aggressive!) as well as confident. Also, how we relate to other people, make decisions and choices, how we think, how to feel, and how we behave all depends on our self-esteem and self-confidence. Building your self confidence and being assertive depends on changing your mind-set and your focus!
