Science in the City Virtual Festival 2024
Description:
On November 29, 2024, at 6pm, our performances can be screened on our online platforms from the comfort of your home. For those who visited the festival in September, you can relive the experience. For those who missed it, join us on this exciting journey! Ripped Genes Age group: 6-13yr Performers Marjann Attard and Sean Briffa and researcher Dr Emma Clarke (UM) present Eugene, who brings young audiences up to speed on the nuances of genetics and DNA combinations. By helping Eugene understand what his face should look like, using his family tree to make the connections, children get to understand how they get to have brown eyes over blue or dark skin over fair. More importantly, how our DNA makes us so similar and yet so unique. Hunting the Higgs Age group: 6+ The Large Hadron Collider is the world’s largest and most powerful machine. Join Dr Sam Gregson and Prof Ing. Gianluca Valentino (UM), two researchers who have worked at CERN, to become a particle physicist and see if you have what it takes to control the Large Hadron Collider. Expect games, hilarious jokes and loud explosions. This is no place for the faint of heart! Boo Recaccia Age group: 8+ Buddies' Experiments, founded in 2022 by Cc Marmaritsaki and Marina Sasli brings Boo Reccacia. Imagine how many things could be achieved more easily, and more enjoyably if we choose not to do them alone. In this dance performance, discover the power of human connection and support through rhythm, maths and movement. Learn about the innovative methodology that celebrates co development with people from diverse backgrounds. Addressing the water scarcity in the agriculture Age group: 16+ PRIMA-funded MED-WET is a three-year initiative aimed at testing three cost-effective, streamlined solutions for irrigating crops and fruit trees at pilot locations in Portugal, Gozo, Morocco, and Egypt. All this without walking through your front door! By registering on Eventbrite, you will receive confirmation and a reminder email with the link to watch the performances online!
