St. Valentine’s Day is set to become a memorable day for music lovers as Barocco Foundation presents a romantic voice and piano recital at St. Augustine Monastery, Valletta. Poeme d’Amour features marvellous soprano Marvic Baldacchino Serbian and pianist Milica Lawrence on Friday 14 February 2020 at 8pm.
The programme gathers a number of romantic bel canto songs and arias by Vincenzo Bellini and Gioacchino Rossino amongst others. The programme’s memorable highlights are Ernesto de Curtis’ Non ti scordar di me, Bellini’s Ma Rendi Pur Content, Giordano’s Caro Mio Ben and Rossini’s L’Invito. The recital features sparkling songs such as Tosti’s A’ Vucchella and Donaudy’s Vaghissima Sembianza as well as inspiring piano interludes by Armando Ghidoni.
Soprano Marvic Baldacchino (b.1998) commenced her vocal studies in 2011 with mezzo-soprano Claire Massa at the Johann Strauss School of Music and later went on to study with soprano Miriam Cauchi at the Malta School of Music. Marvic has participated in masterclasses with many acclaimed singers including Janis Kelly and Jamie Mc Dougall at Oxenfoord International (UK) and with Juliette Bisazza, Tatiana Lisnic, Miriam Gauci and Prof. Carlos Conde Gonzales in Malta.
Distinguished pianist Dr. Milica Lawrence has studied piano in Serbia and received her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree (DMA) degree at the Faculty of music arts in Belgrade, Serbia She attended numerous piano and harpsichord masterclasses with many distinguished Serbian and international artists. Milica has won many prizes for solo and ensemble performances at domestic and international competitions. She has held a great number of soloist recitals and chamber music concerts both in her native country and abroad (Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Libya. She has taken part as an orchestra member with Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Dusan Skovran String Orchestra, Schlesinger Orchestra, Mokranjac Chamber Orchestra, Zemun Chamber Orchestra. She has collaborated with many renowned artists - Sreten Krstic, Uros Lajovic, Dmitry and Alexander Sitkovetsky, Charles Zachary Bornstein, Milos Petrović. Milica performed as a soloist with the Chamber Orchestra Mokranjac, the FILUM Orchestra and the Schlesinger Orchestra. She has also recorded for radio and TV. Currently based in Malta, she is a freelance piano player and accompanist and tours throughout the UK.
Wine and light refreshments will be served after the concert. Proceeds from the event will go to the restoration project of the Augustinian Monastery.
