Maximum number of Participants: 12 Course Description; 1st Lesson – This first session will be dedicated to an explanation of the camera and other equipment a photojournalist uses when getting ready for a street photography session. Though sometimes it’s also about getting lucky with a shot, many times it’s how much you’re prepared to shoot a moment which tells a story. Only a photographer knows how hard it is not to have the camera at hand when a nice photo opportunity presents itself! Even when you do, a better understanding of the camera settings will allow you to come up with an even more stunning pic. For this first session, participants will be asked to bring over 3 images they would like to show to the experienced tutor, who will in turn deliver some tips on what could have been done to improve the photo. These will be the points covered; Holding the camera Point of interest Rules of thirds Exposure Settings – ISO, Aperture & Shutter Speed Metering White Balance Shoot RAW Colour Wheel Students Image Critique 2nd Lesson – How to shoot Street and Journalism. This session will be entirely dedicated to practical tips aimed at helping you plan your shoot in situations which are not controlled entirely by the photographer. Unlike studio sessions, where the photographer can plan lighting and image content, street photography and photojurnalism provide the exciting thrill of seizing the moment, and finally enjoy an image which tells a story. Practical examples will prepare the participants for the next session. This is what will be covered in the second session; Composition Camera Settings Background Examples 3rd Lesson – Participants will take on the streets of Valletta and, under the guidance of the tutor, will enjoy the true nature of photojournalism and street photography. This is a time to experiment and use the tips delivered in the previous sessions, and, most of all, enjoy the excitement and focus offered by photography. Most of all…snap away, enjoy the session..we’re pretty sure that you’ll spot things you’ve never seen in the city of Knights! 4th Lesson – This last session will be dedicated to a critique of photos shot during the Valletta session. The tutor will deliver constructive feedback for the benefit of participants (3 photos per participant). A certificate will be presented to participants. The Tutor Martin Agius was born in 1966 and his initial interest in photography began as a hobby in his younger years. In 2009 he was appointed as the Official Photographer for the Armed Forces of Malta as well as entrusted as the Official Photographer for the Malta Institute of the Professional Photography (MIPP), of which he is also an active committee member with the roles of Treasurer. Martin is also an active member of The Societies, one of the United Kingdom’s foremost photographic organizations. In 2010 he retired from the Army and started a career as a Freelance photographer and as a Photojournalist for Medialink Communications. Mentored by top-award winning Maltese photographer Kevin Casha, he also successfully attended advanced courses in image editing with Photoshop guru Ramon Sammut. Both these personalities have regularly inspired and influenced Martin in his photographic career. Martin has a strong admirable work ethic, which makes him a reliable and trustworthy individual. He supports and encourages a team-player environment and is highly adaptable and resourceful. His photography output benefits his unique talents with perhaps the genre of photojournalism best fitting his observant character.
